Winter Ready Business
2/7/2022 (Permalink)
In Mid-Missouri we can experience ice, cold winters with sleet, snow, ice, and damaging winds. We may not be able to control Mother Nature, but we can take action by getting the property winter ready with these precautions.
- Check property for downed tree limbs and branches. Winter conditions could cause branches to fall causing damage to property or person injuries.
- Inspect roofs, water pipes, and gutters. Clear gutters of any debris from the fall to prevent a damming effect. Gutter downspouts should be directed away from your building.
- Inspect walkways and parking lots for proper drainage. This could alleviate a potential flood and/or slip hazard.
- Entryways, handrails, and stairwells should be checked to address and correct potential slippery or hazardous areas. Post caution signs where water may be present and install mats or non-slip surfaces in the dangerous areas.
- Protect pipes from freezing. Allow water to drip when temperatures go below freezing. Leave cabinet doors open to circulate warm air, if pipes are under them. Consider shutting off water to outdoor faucets and ensure they are properly drained.
- Emergency Ready Profile. Contact SERVPRO for a no-cost assessment of your facility. It provides you with a plan to get back to business faster following a disaster.
Make sure your business is ready for the bitterly cold weather that may be ahead. If winter weather strikes, SERVPRO of Lincoln & Warren Counties are Here to Help.

What if you have water where it doesn't belong?
12/15/2021 (Permalink)
Here is just a brief overview of the process:
We begin with a detailed inspection of the property, including a damage assessment. At this stage, our professionals are trying to determine the scope of the damage so that we can develop an appropriate plan of action.
After the inspection and damage assessment step, the water extraction process begins. This step removes the majority of the water. We use powerful pumps and truck-mounted vacuum units to quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons of water from your property.
Once the excess water has been removed, the floors and walls may appear dry, but a quick inspection will reveal they are wet to the touch. Nearly all building materials, like wood, drywall, and flooring materials, are porous and therefore retain water. This retained water can cause the materials to break down, warp, or cause mold damage.
Monitoring:
Monitoring after the initial mitigation and building stabilization of the job site on a daily basis is important. After 24 hours, equipment is manipulated to ensure optimal drying is occurring. This is why we will return to your property regularly to test water damaged materials for moisture and monitor the drying process. We will adjust the water damage restoration equipment and begin removing equipment as soon as areas have reached the proper drying of materials. This will help save you money on unnecessary rentals as well as assure that materials are not over dried causing secondary damage. Every step of the water damage restoration process is monitored and documented thoroughly, and you will have access to these water damage reports at any point during the process.
This is just a brief overview of some of the steps what we do to dry out a building.

Are your Employees Prepared
11/12/2019 (Permalink)
When you started your business did you imagine yourself being present 24/7? Most business owners do not have the ability nor is it practical to think you can be completely involved in your business every minute of every day. We hire employees we hope to trust and try to make sure they represent the ultimate goal of what your business is trying to achieve. However is it possible we might overlook the basic things employees should know? Do your workers know how to shut off the water or the electric? Would they know who to call in case you were out of town or unavailable during a disaster? It is important to discuss a plan with your employees in the case of a water or fire event. These events could be anything from something breaking within your building or an outside force such as a storm or heavy winds. When I was a high school student working in a local restaurant our owner was out of town. There was a storm in which the roof had blown off causing it to look like it was raining in our restaurant! If we had an ERP, an Emergency Ready Profile, from our local SERVPRO we would have been prepared for the situation. An ERP will help your entire team have the information they will need when disaster strikes.

Deodorization is KEY For Your Business
8/14/2018 (Permalink)
Even a small fire can cause odors for years to come if the affected areas are not properly cleaned and deodorized. Fire, smoke and soot damage can create unpleasant and potentially permanent problems for your business for a VERY LONG TIME. As various materials burn, the smoke produced travels throughout the structure, leaving odorous residues and deposits on surfaces and in hard-to-reach places. Unless fast, professional action is taken, these residues and deposits can cause permanent damage to contents and may result in resurfacing odors. With technicians certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC), SERVPRO® Franchise Professionals provide specialized services that can rid your home or business of offensive odors left by fire or smoke damage. SERVPRO® Franchise Professionals do not cover up lingering odors with a fragrance; they seek out and remove the sources of the odor. If you or a customer suffer a fire damage or some other accident and require deodorization services, contact SERVPRO of Lincoln and Warren Counties. Whether it’s fire, water, or mold damage, or just a stubborn odor that refuses to go away, we’ll help make it “Like it never even happened.”
What Is Your Businesses Air Quality?
8/14/2018 (Permalink)
The ventilation system is often the biggest culprit in poor indoor air quality, but you can help change that! Inspecting the duct-work in your home should be a high priority. In most cases, the HVAC system has been operating for some time without much attention. Dirty ducts can circulate odors, contaminants such as mold, and irritating dust throughout your business. A routine part of your local SERVPRO service is inspecting the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping the HVAC and ductwork clean can potentially extend the life-span of the equipment by allowing it to operate at peak condition, which may help save you money. Duct cleaning may not always be necessary. SERVPRO Professionals will inspect your HVAC system and duct-work and make recommendations about the best way to address any indoor air quality concerns. This inspection can help save you money and provide peace of mind on the health of your HVAC system and duct-work. In some circumstances, such as after a fire, smoke, or suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process. In these cases, your SERVPRO professional can often restore the HVAC system and duct-work to pre-damage condition. If you have a fuel-burning furnace, stove, or fireplace, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends they be inspected for proper functioning and be serviced before each heating season to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning. The SERVPRO® Duct Cleaning System is proven and cost-efficient. Unlike the majority of duct cleaning services, your SERVPRO® Franchise Professional uses a portable ventilation and air duct cleaning system to examine ductwork and make a clean sweep, removing years of dust and grime. n The process begins by using patented equipment, including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the duct’s shape and diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins. n Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container. Air is filtered through a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.97 percent of the particles in the airstream. HEPA filters capture debris and keep the indoor environment clean. n As an optional process, a sealant or coating product may be sprayed to address odor or microbial concerns. n Filters will either be cleaned or replaced to remove odor and dirt. For more information on duct cleaning or to schedule an appointment, contact your SERVPRO of Lincoln and Warren Counties

Your Business vs. Ice Dams
1/3/2018 (Permalink)
It is often hard to know what kind of weather Missouri will bring during the winter months. Our winter of 2017-18 has brought us more snow already than in the entire winter of 2016-17. Having these previous "off-years" can make business owners unprepared and forgetful of how harsh mid-western winters can become. We remember to start our company vehicles a little earlier and salt our sidewalks. We prepare for employees to have to stay home more during snow days with their children. But what are the things we can't see that could put your business in jeopardy? Things such as Ice Dams can be a little known, but major problem during the snowy season. They form when heated air melts roof snow downward into water dammed behind still frozen ice. When the trapped water cannot safely flow or run into the gutter system, it can back flow under the roof's shingles and into the business's interior areas, as well as causing gutter and shingles to move or fall. Icicles can be an initial sign of an ice dam, according to Travelers.com. To spot ice dams inside "check for water stains or moisture in your attic or along the ceiling of exterior walls of your building. Water stains or moisture may be an indication that an ice dam has formed and water has penetrated the roof membrane.
