Unoccupied Home Gets Storm Damage
A good amount of the houses we work on have been unoccupied. This could be due to the homeowner in between moves, foreclosures, evictions or landlords in between tenants. However, when a storm occurs and no one is home for a few days, water becomes almost invisible. If you judged this scenario by the before picture, it would look like nothing was wrong. However storm water from a rising creek in the back yard had come in through the walkout basement and soaked the carpet. Drywall acts like a sponge and can soak 1 inch of water into it almost a foot up. We had to remove carpet and the first two feet of drywall to prevent mold.
